A technology I think hasn't been tapped into enough is Augmented Reality. Virtual Reality has been increasing in popularity in recent years but mainly in video gaming. I think the AR technology can be implemented to create a new type of new media. Instead of replacing your reality, Augmented Reality adds to it. A big issue with social media is the disconnect from reality, augmented reality can open up a whole new way of connecting with people anywhere in the world.

My idea involves some type of wearable lenses, either glasses or contact lenses (way in the future), that overlays a visual on top of what you normally see. Imagine a world where you can talk to a relative on the other side of the world, but see them two feet in front of you. Imagine a world where no one owns a TV, because you can just watch Netflix, YouTube, or a Podcast on any empty wall with AR lenses. It can also be used to play video games, but also game-ify real life. Imagine there is a health program where you see health points on anything you eat, and you earn points for eating healthy, drinking water, and exercising, or lose health points for eating unhealthy foods or not exercising. For exercising, there can even be a visual of a trainer showing you how to do the exercise. With Augmented Reality, the possibilities are endless.

  1. I think this is a great idea, it is true that VR has gotten popular over the years, and AR is only applied to things that most people think they need, such as Car. Some newer models of car uses AR to shows speed and possible nearby objects to avoid collisions when changing lanes. But in my opinion, i don't see AR as part of our daily lives yet, it sure does sounds very futuristic but also lonely, it gives us more reason to be isolated and be on our own. I think AR would be more beneficial in other terms, such as medical field.

    1. I couldn't agree with you more. I also think it would be good to use VR in the medical field. For example, some patients with depression can learn more about things they are interested through VR.
